Delaware Township Voter in 1893 (Part III)

in the Beacon circa 1970's)
This article is the
third giving some in interesting facts about some of the 350 Delaware Township
Voters who voted in Sergeantsville November 7, 1893. Although a few lived on
into the days the writer can remember, through the kindness of William Reading,
Myrtie and William Case, long time resident of that area, the writer has been
able to compile the facts of the three articles.
In this election, Henry
F. Bodine of Locktown and Israel P. Shepherd of Sergeantsville were the poll
clerks and the Board of Registry consisted of William H. Woodruff, Isiah
Sutton, James M. Cox and Charles M. Williamson.
Nelson Sperling was
a painter in Sergeantsville and lived where Lynn Johnson formerly had his
barber shop.
Thomas Hully farmed
the Ataminuk place.
William Strouse ran
the Sergeantsville creamery.
Anderson Bray lived
on the Pyatt place where Chet Huntley once lived.
Garet B. Rynearson
lived on the Talbot place on White Hall Hill.
Henry Groff was the
father of Laura Bush, wife of Percy Bush.
Cyharles W.
Woodruff lived in the house by the Amwell Chruch where Opal Smith now resides.
William D. Wilson
was the son of Jacob Wilson, Sergeantsville hotel owner.
Gerorge W. Heath
had a wheel wright shop.
Joseph. Carrell was
the owner of the mill at Headquarters.
James M. Cox lived
where Wanda Schmidt presently lives. He was a good singer at the Sergeantsville
Methodist Church.
Lewis Cronce lived
near Sand Brook on the Henry Britton place. He was an uncle to William T. Case.
Holcome W. Johnson
was the father of Frank and Joseph Johnson of Sand Brook. Frank ran the General
Store in Sand Brook for many years.
Lewis F. Van Horne
lived near the covered bridge where Mildred Cotton now resides.
Peter Hockenbury
lived near Locktown .
Frank P. Wagner had
a farm on the Ringoes Road. They say that he was more interested in his race
horses than farming. Two sisters, Kate and Rhoda lived on many years after him.
John W. Case had a farm
near the Amwell Chruch. His daughter married Elmer Yard.
Alton Lake lived on
the Ferry Road to Locktown. His daughter married Russel Deemer.
Edward M. Heath was
a Locktown farmer and insurance agent.
Henry K. Fink was a
farmer near Sand Brook. His daughter married Charles Bearder, a well known
music teacher.
Clinton B. Wilson
was the writer's grandfather. He last lived where J. Carl Holcombe presently
lives.
Frank F. Holsopple
was a pastor of the Amwell Church.
Manning Potts had a
farm near Bowne Station. He was the father of Edna Abbot.
Asher B. Williamson
had a shoe store where Venable's Country Store is now located in
Sergeantsville.
